Brittany Votruba, Managing Paralegal at Beam Legal Team, recently visited Wendell Smith Elementary School in Chicago, Illinois, to volunteer at a legal-focused career fair put on by the Zeta Phi Beta sorority.
As part of their philanthropic efforts, the members of Zeta Phi Beta put on a career fair to educate and inform K-8 students at Wendell Smith Elementary School on the world of law. This career fair allowed students the opportunity to go from table to table and speak with industry experts from several different areas within the legal field from law enforcement to paralegals to lawyers.
The Importance of Injury Firms in Providing Justice for Victims
As a volunteer at the career fair, Brittany Votruba had the opportunity to set up a booth and educate the students of Wendell Smith Middle School about Beam Legal Team and our efforts to bring justice and compensation to families affected by birth injuries and medical malpractice during pregnancy and childbirth.
Brittany has served as a paralegal on many cases not just here in Chicago but across the U.S., including two cases that resulted in the largest jury verdicts for a birth trauma case in their respective states’ history.
Her work helped win the family of Scotty K. of Iowa an unprecedented $97.4 million after medical staff’s neglect during his delivery resulted in multiple severe, life-changing brain injuries. She also helped build the case for Marissa P. of West Virginia, whose family was ultimately awarded $17 million after nursing staff ignored orders from the neonatologist, which resulted in the newborn Marissa suffering brain damage, cerebral palsy, and spastic quadriplegia. Sadly, our firm sees cases of medical negligence like these far too often, and we’re proud when our work can make a real difference in the lives of innocent victims like Scotty and Marissa.
With her decades of experience helping people get compensation after being harmed through others’ negligence, Brittany Votruba was able to share her knowledge of personal injury law with the students of Wendell Smith Elementary and give more insight into how medical malpractice affects families every day. As a firm, our goal is to not only provide families with the compensation they need for any injuries sustained during childbirth, but to provide them with the compassion and understanding they deserve.
